FAQs
How do I know if my child or family needs help?
If you are worried, overwhelmed or unsure, it is okay to reach out. We can help you think through what is happening and what kind of support may be helpful.
What if my child is under 2?
Families with infants and toddlers are welcome to reach out. Early support can be helpful for concerns related to bonding, regulation, sleep, crying, separation, transitions, development or stress.
Is there a cost?
There are no fees for service. You do not need to have an OHIP card.
What are the ASQ’s?
The Ages and Stages questionnaires are screening tools that help caregivers and service providers understand a young child’s development and social-emotional well-being. They can help identify strengths, questions and areas where support may be helpful.
What can I expect at York Hills?
You can expect a respectful conversation about your child, your family, your concerns and your hopes. We will work with you to identify the right next steps for your family.
How involved are parents and caregivers?
Parents and caregivers are central to services for young children. Young children grow and heal in the context of relationships, so we work closely with the adults who know them best.
Are services virtual or in-person?
Both in-person and virtual services are available. The service format depends on family needs, type of service and availability.
What if English is not my first language?
We encourage families to ask about language support and interpretation. We do not want language to be a barrier to services.
Can Childcare providers refer?
With caregiver written consent, yes, childcare providers can make a referral.
Childcare providers can also request a “Program specific Consultation”.
How can I help shape this program?
Families and community partners are invited to complete service feedback throughout your York Hills experience.
Our Family Advisory Committee (FACE) is a group of passionate family members with lived experience supporting a child or youth with mental health needs. Members care deeply about improving services and bring their full range of experiences – both the positive moments and the challenging ones – because all of it helps us learn and grow. It’s a space where people feel comfortable sharing their perspectives and where collaboration, diversity, and inclusion are truly valued.
